AN ACT TO AMEND G.S. 153-5 TO PROVIDE FOR STAGGERED TERMS OF OFFICE FOR THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ONSLOW COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 153-5, as the same appears in the 1967 Cumulative Supplement to Replacement Volume 3C of the General Statutes, is amended by adding a new paragraph at the end thereof to read as follows:

"At the election for county officers to be held in Onslow County in 1970, there shall be elected five county commissioners. The three candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall serve four a term of for (4) years each. The two candidates receiving the next highest number of votes shall serve for a term of two (2) years each. Thereafter, members shall be elected for a term of four (4) years and elections shall be held biennially for the number of commissioners whose terms expire."

Sec. 2. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
