HOUSE BILL 1157
AN ACT abolishing the office of coroner in avery, bladen, hoke, AND MONTGOMERY Counties.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1.(a) The office of coroner in Montgomery County is abolished.
SECTION 1.(b) Chapter 152 of the General Statutes is not applicable to Montgomery County.
SECTION 2.(a) The office of coroner is abolished.
SECTION 2.(b) Chapter 152 of the General Statutes is not applicable.
SECTION 2.(c) This section applies only in the following counties: Avery, Bladen, and Hoke Counties.
SECTION 3. Notwithstanding Section 2 of this act, any coroner elected in the 2018 or 2020 general election shall serve the remainder of their term. If a vacancy occurs in the office of coroner, a person may be appointed to serve the remainder of the unexpired term.
SECTION 4. Sections 2 and 3 of this act become effective January 1, 2021. The remainder of this act is effective when it becomes law.
