Overview: Sec. 8.31 of S.L. 2016-94 modifies the actions a superintendent may pursue concerning a principal of a school that has been identified as low-performing by the State Board of Education. A superintendent may recommend a principal be retained in the same position without a plan for remediation only if: (i) the principal has been at the same school for less than two years, or (ii) the principal has been at the school two years or more and the school has both met student growth and improved student achievement scores for the prior school year.
This section became effective July 1, 2016, and applies beginning with the 2016-2017 school year.
