Overview: Section 34.18A of S.L. 2017-57 authorizes the Department of Transportation to allocate funds, up to $200,000 annually, to a qualifying public transportation system to be used to consolidate and coordinate with other public transportation systems. To qualify, a system must submit a plan for consolidation, including a time line and estimated cost for completion. Beginning December 1, 2017, the Department is required to report annually to the Joint Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee on each system provided funding, the amount of funds disbursed, and the purposes for which the funds were used. The Department must establish criteria for approving plans submitted by public transportation systems by September 1, 2017, and publish the criteria on the Department's Web site.
