Overview: S.L. 2017-57, Sec. 9.8 clarifies that community college tuition and fees may be waived for students participating in pre-apprenticeship programs, if the program is recognized and approved by the State agency administering the statewide apprenticeship program. Additionally, it clarifies that participants must be high school students in North Carolina.This section became effective July 1, 2017 and applies retroactively beginning with the 2016 fall academic term.
