Overview: Section 13.2 of S.L. 2026‑41 (Senate Bill 257) provides that the Department of Labor can elect to be exempted from oversight by the Department of Administration under certain laws regarding purchasing, contracts, acquisition and maintenance of real property, and leasing of office space. The election allowed by this section must be made in writing by the Commissioner of Labor and must be sent to the Secretary of Administration. Any acquisition of real property made by the Department of Labor pursuant to this section is subject to approval by the Council of State.
This section became effective July 7, 2026, and applies to purchases made, contracts entered into, or other actions taken by the Department of Labor on or after that date.
