S257 - 2026 Appropriations Act. (SL 2026-41)

Overview: Section 17.4 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) makes the following two modifications to the laws related to the Department of Adult Correction (DAC):

  • DAC is required to submit a report by February 1, 2027, and annually thereafter, providing the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice and Public Safety with certain information related to nursing positions within DAC and the use of temporary contract nursing services.
  • DAC is allowed in its discretion to convert funds appropriate for contractual nursing services into permanent nursing positions.  

This section became effective July 1, 2026.
