Overview: Section 17.10 of S.L. 2026‑41 (Senate Bill 257) modifies certain reporting requirements related to the Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program as follows:

  • The North Carolina Sheriffs' Association must submit the report no later than the 15th day of March and September of each year instead of the 15th day of each month.
  • The North Carolina Sheriffs' Association must submit the report to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice and Public Safety, in addition to the Office of State Budget and Management and the Fiscal Research Division of the General Assembly.

This section became effective July 7, 2026, and applies to reports submitted on or after that date.
