Overview: Section 17.1 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) grants the Department of Adult Correction (DAC) the authority to continue to contract with The Center for Community Transitions, Inc. (The Center), or any successor entity, for the purchase of prison beds for minimum security female inmates.
The Center, or any successor entity, must report by February 1 of each year to the chairs of the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee on Justice and Public Safety on the annual cost per inmate and the average daily inmate population compared to bed capacity using the same methodology that is used by the DAC.
The first report required by this section must be submitted no later than February 1, 2027. This section became effective July 1, 2026.
