Overview: Section 5 of S.L. 2026-53 (House Bill 206) modifies various laws related to the payment of expenses as authorized by the North Carolina Crime Victims Compensation Act as follows:

  • Increases the compensation amounts related to a dependent's economic loss, household support loss, and work loss.  
  • Specifies how sums remaining in the crime victims fund to promote the mission of the commission may be used.  
  • Expands the eligibility to receive an award related to economic loss.  

This section became effective July 7, 2026.
