S257 - 2026 Appropriations Act. (SL 2026-41)

Overview: Section 8.13 of S.L. 2026-41 (Senate Bill 257) requires the Board of Governors of The University of North Carolina (BOG), in consultation with the Chancellor of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM), to do the following:
- Study the feasibility of increasing the size of the NCSSM-Morganton campus.
- Develop a plan to accommodate at least twice as many students enrolled for in-person instruction at NCSSM-Morganton. The plan must address:
- Information about the number of students who apply and would be accepted to NCSSM but for a lack of physical space or other resources.
- Resources needed to accommodate additional in-person students, including any (i) improvements to physical spaces, (ii) additional faculty and staff, (iii) instructional materials, and (iv) other costs, as determined by the BOG.
- Study increasing the number of students enrolled for remote instruction at NCSSM-Morganton.
- Develop a plan for increasing the number of students enrolled in NCSSM-Morganton for remote instruction.
The BOG must submit its plans for increasing in-person and remote enrollment in NCSSM-Morganton to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee by February 15, 2027.
