Overview: Section 5.6 of S.L. 2025-97 (Senate Bill 449) appropriates $600,000 in recurring funds to the Administrative Office of the Courts in the 2025-2026 fiscal year to be used for additional special assistant United States attorneys. Additionally, this section provides that the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys can assign 12 assistant district attorney positions for the purpose of serving as special assistant United States attorneys rather than 6.

This section is effective retroactively to July 1, 2025.
